LOCAL ISSUES

RE-DEVELOPMENT

The re-development of Croke Villas, ODevanney Gardens and Dominick Street must restart immediately under the direct control of Dublin City Council.

Funds should be borrowed, on a mortgage basis, by the City Council from the National Treasury Management Agency to carry out these programmes.

The Council must use direct labour, hiring building workers who have lost their jobs for these projects.

YOUTH FACILITIES

Malachy will fight for an increase in the number of activities available to our young people, including:

-  upgrading Fairview Park with night time lighting and installing sporting facilities which reflect current popular sports, like motor bike scrambling.

-  making greater use of the Dublin Bay area for leisure and sport activities and providing training for young people in safe use of the sea.

- re-opening Fairview Traffic School to train young people in safe motor cycle use.

- providing small venues where our youth can meet in a relaxed and safe manner.

DRUGS

The aim of any effective anti drug strategy has to be the eradication of illegal drugs in our community rather than the acceptance and containment objective of the current policies.

The immediate closure of night clubs in the area operating without planning permission, which are attracting young teenagers and selling them cheap alcohol.

COMMUNITIIES

The fostering of volunteerism in our communities to kelp residents build up their area into a place which people are proud of and glad to live in.

An effective partnership between residents and the City Council to ensure that areas are kept clean and tidy.

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

Effective community policing which involves young people rather than marginalises them.

We demand the same type of policing is adopted in working class areas as in middle class areas, where residents both young and old in this community are entitled to be treated with respect by the Garda

The re- introduction of full time resident care-takers in flat complexes who will deal with the daily requirements of those complexes.
